Beef Stew:
2 Tbsp oil
500 g beef (1 inch cube), pre-softened
¼  cup onion, diced
2 cloves garlic
½  tsp allspice
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp thyme
½ cup carrots, diced
2 Tbsp wine (optional)
1 pack Hunt's Tomato Sauce 1kg
1 pc leek, chopped
1 cup beef stock
½ tsp liquid seasoning
Mashed Potato Topping:
3 pcs potato
2 ¼  cups milk
1 cup butter
¼  tsp  salt
¼  tsp  pepper
¼  tsp  nutmeg
2 Tbsp basil, chopped
For Brushing:    
1 pc egg yolk
2 Tbsp milk


For the Mashed Potato

  1. Boil potatoes, then peel.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, mash and mix well, then set aside.

For the Beef Stew:

  1. Saute beef with onions and garlic in oil until wilted brown. Add allspice, oregano, and thyme.
  2. Add carrots and wine, then pour in Hunt's Tomato Sauce. Add leek, beef stock, and liquid seasoning then place it in a casserole.
  3. Cover with mashed potato and brush with egg yolk and milk mixture.
  4. Bake until top is golden.
